Benefits of bovine-specific blockers for improved target enrichment

High-throughput genomic screening is essential for modern bovine breeding programs, supporting SNP genotyping, parentage verification, and population-scale genetic evaluation. While microarrays have traditionally been used for these applications, NGS-based approaches offer greater flexibility and long-term value—but require optimized workflows to achieve scalability, consistency, and cost efficiency.

This poster presents an optimized bovine genotyping workflow using the Twist FlexPrep™ UHT Library Preparation Kit, the Twist Genotyping Panel – Bovine 100k, and the Twist Bovine Blocker Solution. FlexPrep enables early pooling and highly multiplexed (96-plex) target enrichment, while the Bovine 100k Panel targets ~100,000 informative SNPs relevant to breeding and parentage. Species-specific bovine blockers reduce off-target hybridization, improving enrichment efficiency and sequencing performance.

Together, these results demonstrate a scalable, NGS-based alternative to traditional bovine microarrays, delivering high-quality genotyping data with improved flexibility and cost efficiency.
