PPR proteins naturally enable precise RNA editing in plant organelles by recognizing RNA one nucleotide at a time, but are difficult to engineer due to their repetitive sequences.
The research team introduces GRASP, a modular assembly method that allows researchers to build custom PPR proteins despite these technical challenges.
This enables programmable, single-nucleotide RNA editing, opening the door to tailored RNA manipulation in plants and potentially other systems.
